Mike and I met through an online dating website. He was 44 and I was 27, but he had lied about his age just enough to make him show up in one of my searches. (He said he was 42, which was 15 years older than me and my upper limit at the time.) We lived less than a mile away from each other, but would probably never have met if not for the dating site and the little white lie he told about his age. The evening we met and first started to talk and get to know each other, I was struck by how easy it was to talk to him. That is really saying something for me, because as an introvert I have always had trouble expressing myself face to face. We shared many of the same life philosophies. We had both faced personal struggles and muddled through mostly by ourselves, and we were both ready to start a new chapter in our lives. Even now, having lost him, I reflect on all the tiny chances that led us together and think how amazing it is that we found each other and fit together so well.
